Villager Voices Interview & GIVEAWAY ♥ ♥ Earthern Magic Essence

Meet In-Dea Gibson from Earthern Magic Essence

Please tell the Village about yourself:
I was born in New York and at the age of 15, my mother decided that she did not want to live in the city anymore and took out a map and closed her eyes and pointed to where we live now, in Alabama .  We all thought that she was crazy, as she had never been in the South before but she picked up and took three children, one dog and two cats to this place we now call home.  I’m a single mom of two boys.  My oldest is 23 and is in the Army.  He is currently in Afghanistan and will be returning home in September.  It’s hard for me because I can’t talk to him when I want but I am proud of him becoming a man and serving our country.  My youngest son is 16 and is all into sports.  His dream is to become a professional basketball player.  Not only does he play basketball but he plays football and track and for many years he also played baseball.  They are my world and definitely keep me on my toes.  I work full-time as a social worker for the State that I live in and work with abused children.
I’ve been doing that for about 13 years now.  The stress of the job had me looking for something to do to calm and relax me.  A friend of mine and I were talking about making soap and decided that we would read up on it and try our hand at it.  That was in 2007 and here I am today still making it and loving every bit of it.  When my friend and I would talk about making soap at work, we always joked and said that we were talking “crack” because it is so addictive.  I am constantly coming up with ideas for a new batch, a new product, even in my sleep.  My hobbies include reading, traveling, gardening, photography and scrapbooking.  I also have a photography business on the side that I run with a friend of mine.  That business is Eye C U Photography.

Tell the Village about your business:
I have been making soap since 2007 and started selling on-line in 2009.  I started out just making soap and wanted to broaden my horizons.  I now also provide sugar scrubs, bath melts, lotion,  body spray, facial masks, laundry detergent, and stain remover.  Oh and let’s not forget my Smelly Jellys.  Those are room fresheners and always sell well at craft shows and markets that I attend.  They always catch someone’s attention and they are curious to what it is and I explain.  I not only make bath and body products, but I also make handmade greeting cards, altered clipboards and glass pendants.  I guess I have four favorites and those are my soaps, my sugar scrubs, smelly jellys and my stain removers.

What inspires you?
I get inspiration from all over but I guess my biggest inspiration is my youngest son and my mother.  My mother always taught me to never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something and my son never lets anything stand in his way to get what he wants.  My son is not afraid to try something new and he has determination.  That’s my inspiration for sticking with my business and not giving up.

What do you love most about your business?
I love that I create everything that is sold in my shop.  I am the only one involved from the creation, to the design, the packaging and marketing.  When I make soap, it calms me and puts me in a zone.  I love to create and this gives me an outlet to endless possibilities.

Would you recommend Sampler Village for other artisans to participate in? Why or why not?
I most definitely would recommend Sampler Village!  It is an avenue for you to introduce your products to individuals outside of you locality as well as giving them a chance to sample and use, which is sometimes better than just looking at a picture and reading a description of a product.  I have been a member for about three years now and will continue to be one.

Lastly, would you like to offer our readers a special or coupon code?
Yes,  I would like to offer a coupon code for 25% off your order.  Use coupon code BINGO2013

Sampler Village would like to send out BIG HUGS to In-Dea for all her love and support.

  3. Great Photo In-Dea!! I am In-Dea's soap making friend. I have to tell everyone that she has the determination and will that few people could endure. She has worked so hard to build her business and I commend her for that. I have to say she has come so far since those first few batches of soap she made. We both love making soap and never get tired of sharing what we have learned with each other. Good luck Indie! MJ
